Danny McSweeney
Danny has been singing since age four, when his father picked him up and held him in front of the microphone to sing his first song, House Of Gold, in front of the church congregation. Since that time he has been singing Southern Gospel music every chance that he gets. Danny was led to Christ in his early teens at an old fashioned church camp meeting. Since then, his life has changed and his focus is living for Christ. He has filled in for several other quartets over the years, but the main thrust of his music ministry has been with his family. He is an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene and has filled a variety of roles over the years, having pastored in Beckley, WV and served as interim pastor several times, and in several other areas in the church. Danny has been married to Melody (Hodges) McSweeney since 1972 and they have three terrific sons, two wonderful grandsons and a beautiful granddaughter.
Melody McSweeney
Melody grew up in Huntington, WV with three brothers and two sisters. She was raised at Highlawn Baptist Church where she first heard about the love of God in Jesus Christ. When Melody was in her teens, her mother took a side job to buy a piano for Melody to learn to play and she has developed that talent to this day with a soft, sweet and touching ability to play gospel music. Danny and Melody first met in high school and became fast friends. But Danny will admit that it was "love at first sight". On September 9, 1972, they married and that love has grown over the years. Melody began to play the piano for the McSweeney Family shortly after they married, and she would sit with Danny's father for hours as he taught her how to play the Southern Gospel style of piano. Melody is a devoted Christian and has raised three wonderful sons with Danny, and if you ask about their grandchildren, she will be glad to share pictures, stories and the joys of being a grandparent. Melody is able to sing several parts and has a sweet sound and a beautiful spirit as she sings the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Jason McSweeney
Jason is the youngest son of Danny and Melody and sings bass. If you ask him about his talent and his singing, he will tell you very quickly that he is "filling the part that my papaw use to sing." Jason first began to find a real interest in Southern Gospel music when he was in high school and had his first experience of hearing the great Cathedral Quartet. He was immediately taken with the deep and smooth bass of George Younce. From that point forward, there has been no music other than Southern Gospel for Jason. He sang professionally while traveling with the Journeymen Quartet out of Milton, WV for several years. He has also helped to fill the bass part for other local quartets, but will tell you that he loves singing with his parents and keeping the family tradition going. Jason was raised the same way that his brothers were, traveling with the family within two weeks after they were born. He loves the Lord and does his best to grow closer to Christ every day. He enjoys listening to the old songs out of the "Red Book Hymnal" and particularly hearing the low bass of singers like J.D. Sumner, Billy Todd, Tim Riley, Ray Reese, and the list goes on and on. But his favorite will always be his papaw.
Charles & Karen Floyd, and Oliver
Karen Floyd
Karen grew up in Sistersville, WV and has been singing gospel music since she was a child. Saved at a young age, and has walked closely with Christ. Karen comes from a “singing family” that included her mother, sisters, and brother from childhood and into their teens. Karen met her husband, Charles, at the Nazarene campground during a youth convention in 1979. They married 1984. She has been an enthusiastic supporter of his ministry as an ordained elder and pastor in the Church of the Nazarene, and she has always been active with Charles in his ministry, involved in music ministry at the churches that he has pastured. They are the proud parents of two beautiful Christian daughters, Rachel Floyd Berry and Sarah Floyd Phoenix. As you can see from her photo, Karen and Charles are the very proud grandparents of grandson, Oliver. Through the years, Karen, Rachel and Sarah sang together and blended their voices in the praise of God. She is a member of the Hurricane, WV First Church of the Nazarene where she is active in choir and special music when possible, as well as supporting groups in ministry to the local Veteran’s Home and personal care homes. Karen brings a beautiful blend to the McSweeney Family and is able to sing a variety of parts with a sweet spirit of Holiness unto the Lord.
