The McSweeney Family has been singing Gospel Music for over well over fifty years as a family and with some of our wonderful friends, The family sings Southern Gospel style for the glory of God and sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The ministry started long ago with Maxine's mother and father, Roy and Ellen Jones. Roy was the true patriarch of the family and would teach the old hymnal songs to his children and grandchildren. But more importantly, Roy and Ellen taught their family about the all consuming love of God and how he sent his Son to become the savior of all that would call on His name.
The ministry continued with Percy and Maxine (Jones) McSweeney forming a quartet while attending the 18th Street Baptist Church, singing with Maxine's cousin, Wally Adkins, along with Katie and Hammond Chaney. They would sing together for several years in revival services and Sunday services at many area churches. The 18th Street Baptist Church was also the place where Percy and Maxine's children were raised and would accept Jesus Christ as their Savior, and where Percy first held his 4 year old son Danny up to a microphone to sing in front of the church for the first time. In the years that followed, the family would continue to sing to the Glory of God and were able to see many people won for Christ in revivals and a variety of services in several cities and states.
In 1972, Danny married Melody Hodges and she started singing with the family and playing the piano, and the ministry continued. In 1987, Maxine was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease and went to be with the Lord on January 2000. Percy continued to be active until New Years Day 2017 when he joined Maxine in Heaven. The group continues with Danny, Melody, Jason (their youngest son), and Karen Floyd
